Plans-les-Ouates, Geneva – 25 July, 2011 A Siemens press conference took place on June 28th, 2011 at Safe Host SA in its state-of-the-art Data Centre based in Geneva, Switzerland. Siemens Building Technologies Division organized this event in collaboration with Safe Host to present its best-in-class solutions integrated into Safe Host’s security systems to 40 journalists coming from all over Europe.

Indeed, Siemens is a relevant partner for Safe Host regarding extinguishing solutions at the cutting edge of modernity. Safe Host owns a six-story building; five of which are occupied almost entirely by IT equipment. Therefore Safe Host contains different generations of fire detectors, fire control panels and extinguishing control panels from Siemens. The automatic extinguishing system meets all the requirements specific to Safe Host Data Centre. Water or water mist cannot be used as it would potentially cause more damage to the sensitive electronics of the servers and storage devices than the fire itself. Thanks to Siemens Safe Host uses a Sinorix N₂ gas extinguishing system.

Besides, the intrusion detection system installed at Safe Host by Siemens was also presented to the journalists. Twenty infrared motion detectors are connected, fifty automatic door interlocks, one hundred eighty contacts on doors and windows protect the building against intruders. In addition, surveillance cameras are located at all major entrances to document attempted break-ins, acts of sabotage and other unusual incidents. In case of a direct attack, two panic buttons are available to manually trigger an alarm.

The press conference revealed a narrow partnership between Siemens and Safe Host around safety and security topics. It proves the experience of Siemens for specific buildings and testifies the high- quality level of Safe Host’s equipment to ensure its customers business continuity services on-site. In some industries, this service implied a company’s economic survival.
